The Washington Post published an interesting article on 4chan and, among other things, Anon’s ability to organize around a single cause and control the internet for a little bit.

4chan may be the best example of what happens when you combine Clay Shirky’s concept of Cognitive Surplus with intrinsic motivations and a desire for social capital (and social capitol becomes an interesting concept to consider in the context of the anonymity that 4chan provides).
